Considering the Cross

“But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord, Jesus Christ…”

Galatians 6:14 (NKJV)

Easter comes each year to remind us of eternal and universal truth. The empty tomb says to you and me, “Of course, you will encounter trouble. But behold the God of power who can take away evil and turn it around for good”.  Let us consider Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. The One who gave His life so that we might have life eternal.

He is the Son of God, but He wore a crown of thorns (John 19:2).  He is the Saviour of mankind, yet He was put to death on a rough wooden cross (John 19:16-19).  He offered His healing touch to an unsaved world, yet the same hands that had healed the sick and raised the dead were pierced with nails (John 20:24-29). He is our Sacrifice, our Advocate, our Brother, bearing our human form before the Father’s throne, and for eternal ages, One with the race. He has redeemed us so that He might reflect the love of God and share the joy of holiness. He suffered once for sin.

If you feel that sin has separated you from God, your motives are impure, and your heart is unclean, you might ask, “How can I be a Christian?”

Acceptance – through faith – of His plan for your life can bring that wonderful future to you.  By faith, we accept Christ, and a new life begins. You might be struggling with the loss of love, for prestige, wealth, family, and friends, but the more you struggle, you feel that sin has separated you from God. You long to be forgiven, to be cleansed, to be set free, to be in harmony with God. It is peace and heaven’s forgiveness that you need. Money cannot buy it; intellect cannot procure it; wisdom cannot attain it; you can never hope by your own efforts to secure it. But God offers it to you as a gift “…without money and without price” (Isaiah 55:1). It is yours if you reach out by faith and grasp it. The Lord says, “…though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow…” (Isaiah 1:18). The cross takes care of the past. The cross takes care of the flesh. The cross takes care of the world. God is in control of our world…only believe.  Just say, ”I accept You, Jesus, as my Saviour,” and believe in your heart.

Prayer

Father, when I accepted Jesus as my personal Saviour, You changed me forever and made me whole. Help me share Your Son’s message with my friends, family, and world. You are a God of love, redemption, conversion, and salvation. I will praise You today and forever. Amen.
